REPRESENTATIONS OF BRAZIL IN THE PFL TEXTBOOK: AN INTERCULTURAL ANALYSIS
Portuguese as a foreign language, Interculturality, Textbook.
The objective of this research is to study intercultural representations of Brazil in textbooks (LD) of Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PLE), from the perspective of interculturality. The intention is to interpret and analyze the representations in these inputs, as well as to consider possible ways of improving PLE textbooks. In addition, we are looking to see if there are any stereotypes, and if so, which ones are reinforced in the selected works. The theoretical framework underpinning this research is organized by cultural and intercultural studies, namely: Bennet (2013), Kramsch (2018); Mendes (2011); and Meyer (2013), among others. Therefore, this qualitative research is characterized as documentary and interpretive, since the perspective is to observe the data, record it, analyze it, categorize it and interpret it. Our corpus consists of six LDs published between 2013 to 2023. In preliminary results, we observed that the images suggest Brazilian representations that are crystallized in the imaginary of the foreigner, as well as constructions with few expressiveness regarding the cultural and intercultural aspects of Brazil.
