SUMMARY:

This dissertation shows the cognitive-discursive process involved in the construction of the meaning of Covid-19 in the CPI of the Pandemic. For this, the main objective is to research, describe and demonstrate in the testimony of the former Minister of Health, Eduardo Pazzuelo, the way in which cognitive mechanisms bring linguistic concepts, verbal and non-verbal perceptions in discursive interactions between government and opposition interlocutors; and, in practice, extract linguistic indexes, identify the schematic topology, domains, frames and metaphorical projection. The historic moment in which the world's population is affected by the virus means that when thinking about COVID-19 perspectives arise in people's thinking, behavior and communication. That alone makes this work a public utility survey. We then take as theoretical references the concepts of conceptual metaphor (LAKOFF; JOHNSON, 1980), frame (DUQUE, 2015, 2017; FILLMORE, 1986) and language games (DUQUE, 2018; 2022). These categories of analysis are in a theoretical-methodological contribution of Embodied Cognitive Linguistics in which it shows the modality arising from an immediate and sensorimotor experience of the world. The research is of a qualitative and interpretative-descriptive nature on which the phenomenon is characterized. As for methodological procedures, we used tools to identify metaphors - Bootstrapping (DUQUE, 2018); graph representation (SOUZA; DUQUE, 2018), analysis methodology based on image schemes and frames (DUQUE, 2015, 2017); and content analysis (BARDIN, 1977). First, we looked for indexers around Covid-19 in the Senate shorthand notes; we grouped concepts and identified domains; we used frame binding mechanisms and designed the dominant conceptual metaphor. At the same time, we activated TV Senado to analyze the non-verbal aspect of the testimony and corroborate the verbal description. The result allowed us to see that COVID-19 is thought of as a WAR. An important finding is the importance of the schematic topology on the basis of the analysis of the concepts, domains and frames evoked in the speech, allowing the path of different schemes to explain the different meaning of the same phenomenon. In this sense, we check schemes such as BLOCKING and DIGRESSION.
