SUMMARY:

This research aims to analyze the dialogic text (CALIL, 2004, 2008, 2017) emerging in collaborative translation activity in act and in ecological situation. Collaborative translation is a negotiation event in which all the source and target language extracts (O'BRIEN, 2011), as well as the learners' linguistic and discursive knowledge projected by them in the dialogical text, come into play. The research data were generated by students of the course of Letters - Spanish Language of UFRN, in the discipline of Introduction to Latin Language I and Latin Language II and are part of the project TRAÇO – Estudos de Tradução Colaborativa no Ensino Superior. In generating the data, we used a multimodal capture system which makes it possible to analyze the entire dialogical scene of the text negotiation and writing process. Throughout the translation process, which involves the interaction between the students, the reading of the source text and the writing of the translation text, our research aims to answer the following questions: 1. in what way does the students' previous knowledge of the two languages interfere in the translation they are performing? 2. how do homophonic (and homographic) relations between languages interfere in the students' lexical choice? 3. at what point or situations do students abandon the homophonic relationship between languages and enter the semantic relationship of the words in the mother tongue text? Our research is outlined by the theoretical interdisciplinarity that involves Translation Studies (NORD, 2016; HURTADO ALBIR, 1999, 2011), the assumptions of Enunciation Linguistics (BENVENISTE, 2006; AUTHIER-REVUZ, 1990, 1998, 2004), research on collaborative writing in the classroom (CALIL, 2008, 2004, 2017; FELIPETO, 2008, 2019). Preliminary data point out that student-writers activate their prior knowledge for the purpose of seeking meaning for textual understanding and creation. Moreover, the signifiers drive the homophonic relations between the Latin language being translated and the target language, the Portuguese language. In the search for meaning, students go beyond the homophonic category and make different semantic relations in Portuguese, expanding their knowledge about their mother tongue, from metalinguistic reflections within the translation process.
