SUMMARY:

Roberto Bolaño (1953-2003) and César Aira (1945) are two Latin American writers who were contemporaries, being part of a generation that was notable for bringing to Latin American literature new aesthetic proposals that seek to differentiate themselves from the Boom trends of 70s. In his books, whose volume of works is similar in terms of the number of novels and short stories, urban characters and traumas from the leaden years on the continent are mixed with apocalyptic prophecies about the disappearance of bodies and literature itself (as an institution and as aesthetic object). In this thesis, the seek to understand the aspects of this disappearance involves the search for its symbolism, its political role, its contemporary discussion in a world that is about to disappear, and the very construction of an aesthetic universe that is disappearing, writing from the emptyings itself. These symbolic and ethical ways of facing disappearance gain theoretical support in the reflections of Blanchot (2005) and Barthes (2005), but they also walk through the political and philosophical discussion of Fisher (2021), Haraway (2009), DidiHuberman (2020) , and several other authors that help in the construction of an archeology of disappearance, which is mirrored in the work of the two authors in focus. The ideas surrounding this disappearance gain resonance in the works Amuleto (1999), Detetives Selvagens (1988) and 2666 (2006), by Roberto Bolaño, and in the books Como me turned nuira (1992), Os Fantasmas (1990) and Pequeno Manual de Procedures (2007), by César Aira, in addition to several other novels and short stories by the two authors, with an extensive and continuous work, either through the constantly revisited collection, such as Bolaño's, or through the work that continues to be tirelessly written, such as that of Aira.
