SUMMARY:

The labyrinth and literature are related in different ways, manifesting both in the organization of the text, in its varying degrees of complication (narrative and intertextual), as in the symbolic value or deep philosophical sense that can give life to the literary work or practice of writing, according to the meaning of the labyrinth as a threat and challenge to human reason. Carlos Lloró's work is crossed by the possibilities of the relationship between the labyrinth and literature, especially in the novels Kounboum (2009) and Cinis Cinerum (2012). In these works, the labyrinth functions as an open literary structure and as a field of experimentation and criticism, which are formalized from metaphorical, metafictional and auto-fictional elements that appeal to the reader's skills. Structurally, Lloró is inspired by semiotic procedures and models characterized by the density and complexity of information, such as the encyclopedia, the library, the dream and combinatorial art, forms that take us to the labyrinth, according to Umberto Eco (2013). Metaphorically, the labyrinth is the space of illusion and deceit, which is why Lloró literally uses dreamlike and fantastic atmospheres, spreading paradoxes throughout his work, in scenarios composed of corridors and staircases. From the conjugation of the narrative, the aesthetic compositional elements and the ideas formalized literarily, it results, as we affirm in this thesis, the criticism elaborated by the author, being the reflex of his textual strategies. The structural and metaphorical aspects that we highlight are the basis of this critique. Through a labyrinthine structure, in which the novel is the conjunction of several voices, composed of fictional authors, Lloró distinguishes “legendary” authors from “decadent” authors: the former result from deep psychological experiences; the second set in motion a hypertrophied rhetoric, turning literature into nothing more than simulation (they are authors associated with postmodern fiction). Due to the essayistic characteristics inserted in the novels, Lloró establishes a tension between literary genres and writing, turning his text into a kind of critical-fiction, or fiction-theory (or even a fantastic theory of literature).
