Conceptual Integration Networks: an eco-cognitive vision
conceptual integration, meaning formation, echocognition, frame
This study proposes the understanding of conceptual integration through a built model based on an eco-cognitive vision. The conceptual integration network (MRIC) model is a theoretical construct plus an embodied view grounded in the ecological approach to cognition and language (DUQUE, (2016, 2017, 2015b), which postulates that our cognitive capacity is in line with the environment The model emphasizes the physical observation of the body that occurs online as communication situations are presented in role-playing games. We take into account not only speech and written text, but also gestures and contexts that exist in an effective communication situation within For this purpose, we use RPG matches captured from public channels on youtube.com as a corpus. RPG (roleplaying games) are role-playing games known for their high communicational dynamics, which make use of both text and gestures. for its realization. Along the way, we revisited theories, analytical tools and operational concepts that are important for cognitive linguistics as simulation (BARSALOU, 1999), ad-hoc categories (BARSALOU, 1983), frames and framing (LAKOFF, 2004; FILLMORE, 1976; DUQUE, 2015, 2017; DUQUE; SILVA 2019) and conceptual integration (FAUCONNIER; TURNER, 1996, 2002). During the studies, it was possible to notice that both the environment and the linguistic production and physical movement of the players have a strong participation in the process of integrating concepts in the situations analyzed from the corpus. Another preponderant factor in this formation of meaning was the rescue of situations similar to those experienced within the game. The player, using an essentially ecological conceptual apparatus, seems to make use of collaborative strategies among the other participants to understand the discourse and he does so in a dynamic and complex way, adapting to the ever-changing situations provided by the narrative activity of RPG.
