SUMMARY:

Reading and writing, historically, seem to have their legitimacy circumscribed only to the school institution, to the point that many literacy practices performed outside it are socially invisible, especially when their agents are also invisible. However, in the graphocentric society in which we live, the numerous forms of interaction established through language are becoming increasingly evident, especially in spaces other than the school. Considering that we are subjects of knowledge and that our relations with the world take place through actions exchanged through reading, writing and orality, which interfere in our environment, this paper aims at establishing a fruitful dialogue between the literacies constituted in the Scout Movement, more precisely in the Grupo de Escoutiros do Mar Alferes Cassiano Martins (GEMACM), and the community in which it is inserted, which is Barreiras, a district of Macau, in the interior of the state of Rio Grande do Norte. Starting from the context in which the Group is situated, which is the space of the Ponta do Tubarão State Sustainable Development Reserve (RDSEPT), our overall research objective is to understand how literacies situated outside the school context can interact with school literacy and contribute to sustainable development in the RDESPT. To this end, we seek, as specific objectives, to identify types of knowledge (re)constructed in Scout activities that enhance a critical and integrated education to the environment and reflect on interrelations that can be established between formal and non-formal educational agencies, such as school and the Scout Movement. Of qualitative approach, we assume in this study the perspective of socio-environmental research (ALMEIDA; HAYASHI, 2019), from which we developed an Ecoliteracy Project with the members of GEMACM, starting from an important environmental issue for them and for the other residents, which is the improper dumping of cooking oil on the reserve's soil. Theoretically, we based the research on studies of Literacy (STREET, 2014, BARTON; HAMILTON; IVANIC, 1993; HAMILTON, 2000; MCLAREN, 1977; KLEIMAN, 1989, 1995, 2016; OLIVEIRA, 2010; OLIVEIRA; TINOCO; SANTOS, 2014; TINOCO; VALE-SILVA, 2020; DANTAS, 2012; KALANTZIS; COPE; PINHEIRO, 2020) and in environmental studies that address issues related to environmental education, sustainability, science literacy, and ecoliteracy (BOFF, 2016; SEABRA 2009; CARVALHO, 2014; DEMO, 2019; CHASSOT, 2018; MASSARANI, TURNEY, MOREIRA, 2005; LEFF, 2009; 2015; CAPRA ET AL, 2005; 2006). From the discussions emerged from this study, we could deprecate different events and practices of ecoliteracy carried out by the Scouts, such as conversation wheels, meetings, internal trainings, workshops, among others, developed in the Project of Ecoliteracy Preserving our RDSEPT: conscious disposal of cooking oil. In the Project, such events and practices mobilized a set of knowledge linked to scientific, digital, school, civic, family, critical and ecological literacy. Thus, we highlight the imminent need for integrative actions between formal and non-formal spaces of teaching-learning, in order to establish fruitful dialogues aimed at a critical, emancipatory training, in favor of a sustainable environmental education, thus favoring ecoliteracy practices inside and outside the school space.
