PLOWING THE TEACHING OF LITERATURE AGAINST THE GRAIN: TORTO ARADO AND ITS POTENTIAL FOR LITERARY LITERACY
Torto Arado. Literature teaching. Contemporary literature. Resistance writings.
A book with a print run of five thousand is usually considered a best seller in Brazil. Torto Arado has already sold one hundred thousand, in addition to having won the main national awards for novels. One of the aspects that stand out in justifying this success is the fact that the literature of Itamar Vieira Junior is a literature of alterities, directly dialoguing with the postulates of Benjamin (1987) when proposing “brushing history against the grain”, which invites not only to think of an inversion of the order, but of a new establishment of the tradition of the oppressed. With this study, the goal is to analyze the forementioned novel from it's representations of resistance to barbarism and to present reflections on a critical project of literary literacy. Therefore, the theoretical outline that conducts this dissertation starts from the postulates of the Bakhtin Circle (1997; 2014; 2015; 2018; 2019) to conceptualize and explain some key definitions of the parts that make up the whole of the analysis, such as the debates around the architectural, alterity and chronotope. The study will also dialogue with the need to build a new mnemonic space from Seligmann-Silva's conceptualization (2008;2020), Bosi's (2002) understanding of what is meant by an art of resistance and Kramer's (2008) contributions on the implications of thinking about an education also against the grain.
