SUMMARY:

The research Passagens Benjaminianas: Ressemantizações e Novas Leituras de Walter Benjamin no contexto brasileiro has as its first object of study the Brazilian translation of Walter Benjamin's Das Passagen-Werk (1892-1940), entitled Passagens, organized by the Germanist Willi Bolle and published in 2006. The focus of interest is the analysis of the text-context relationship in the translation/editorial apparatus of the translation and how these choices will resemanticize the work in the new cultural context opening space for new readings of this unfinished work of Benjamin. The basis of the Brazilian translation is the historical-critical edition of the set of Benjamin texts and fragments by Rolf Tiedemann in 1982. The discovery of new manuscripts by Giorgio Agamben in 1981 raises questions about Tiedemann's edition since the mid-1980s. To this end, we take into consideration, in addition to Benjamin's concepts, such as translatability and survival of the work (BENJAMIN, 2018), the critical discourse on the German historical-critical edition to analyze this Brazilian translation from the perspective of the concept of cultural transfers (ESPAGNE 2012; 2017). Of specific interest are the processes of resemantization and metamorphosis of the (para-)text of the Passages and of their contextualization via translation in the broadest possible sense. On the issue of translation the choices of the team of translators in the act of translation (VENUTI 2008; 2019) and the relationship between translation, editing and rewriting (LEFEVERE, 1992). Of great theoretical-methodological relevance is also Rüdiger Nutt-Kofoth's (2016) work on models of historical-critical editions as a basis for reflections on new approaches to the process of editing and publishing posthumous works in the context of translation. Despite the evident link between the Passagen-Werk, outgoing work, and Passagens, incoming work, the translation distances itself from that by omitting to a significant part of the editorial apparatus and addition of new paratexts, creating Passagens as a new original that allows a different reading of these fragments with greater reader engagement and possibly a new path for the use of Benjamin also in the classroom with alternative reading strategies. Therefore, the second objective of this research is a proposal for a flexible, open organization of the translated Benjaminian fragments on the basis of the applied method of Niklas Luhmann's Zettelkasten [Annotation Box] (1981), which combines not only with Benjamin's own type of annotations and the exemplary organization of an open reading of the Passages in the Brazilian classroom context, but also with the basic ideas of the concept of cultural transfers.
