KEY WORDS:

Homosexuality. Coming out. Gay Literature

PAGES: 56
BIG AREA: Linguística, Letras e Artes
AREA: Letras
SUMMARY:

With the advancement of research on gender and sexuality in the academic environment, since the 1960s, it has become necessary to address some themes that have always been present, but in recent years, even more recurring, among them, the coming out of gay teens. An exclusive feature in LGBTQIA + people, but that we will focus only on gay boys as a boundary of our research. To better address this issue, two novels will be analyzed, Submerso (2018), by Brazilian Eduardo Cilto and Com amor, Simon (2015), by American Becky Albertalli. Thus, in order to better understand how this process of acceptance of homosexuality takes place, within a literary view, we turn to theorists such as Foucault, (1984; 1988), Freud (2002 [1856-1939]; 2012), Sartre (2002), who contributed their theories to the debate on sexualities and; Cain (1991), Cass (1979), Coleman (1982) who innovated, in their respective areas, with their studies on the process of coming out in gay teenagers. The survey results show how some Western cultures dealt with homosexuality in different historical periods, as well as points that converge during the process of coming out of these homosexual boys.
