SUMMARY:

Special education in an inclusive perspective and deaf studies have,
in recent years, fought battles in the academic field regarding the
deaf person. With regard to the social issue, more precisely, there
were many approaches and also numerous approaches adopted,
culminating, even, in different terminologies. Some of the examples
already widely discussed in the scientific literature are the term
"person with hearing impairment", as opposed to "deaf person".
Whatever the controversies surrounding the adoption of one or the
other term, it is a fact that people with hearing impairment, whether
they are exposed to sign language or not, were left out by studies in
the social field, which is why they are so few research related to
them. That said, this research aims to identify the dialogical clashes
and the forms of colonial objectification in the process of identity
transition of people with hearing impairment. To this end, we orient
our readings based on studies on: colonial objectification with Bhabha
(1994; 1998), Fanon (1961) and Boaventura Santos and Meneses (2009);
identity with Hall (2006) and Bauman (2005), the language conception
of the Bakhtin Circle (1997; 2002), Faraco (2009), Volóchinov (2017),
Brait (2005; 2017), Sobral (2019) and, finally , with regard to deaf
culture with Perlin (2003; 2016), Strobel (2008; 2009), Quadros (2019)
and Ladd (2013). The research subjects were six (6) deaf students from
the Course of Letters: Libras / Portuguese Language at UFRN. The data
were constructed through a semi-structured interview, in Libras,
carried out in the configuration of a conversation wheel. From the analysis of the data, the following categories emerged: identity transition, colonial objectification and dialogical clashes.
