RESUMO:
St. Bernard of the Wuthering Heights: a Marxist course in the heat of the class
struggle proposes an essayistic and comparative reading between Emily Brontë’s,
Wuthering Heights and Graciliano Ramos’s, St. Bernard. Sketched with the Marxist
perspective, it emphasizes the forms of perception of the nineteenth and twentieth
centuries, the social mentality and the ideology of the time reflected in the literary
aesthetics. For this reason, as a general objective, it studied the literary forms of
the novel in the mentioned centuries, analyzing the social space in which the works
of the mentioned authors were developed, investigating context, relations of
production and aesthetics as punctuators of the narratives, observing how the
social mentality of these periods are conditioned by social relations. Besides that, it
has confronted the enunciator's time and the enunciation time as strategies for the
unfolding of the narratives, under the form of memories, pointing out aesthetic
elements as markers of power relations, both reflected in the language and
structure of novels; inferring the use of memory as a propitiating tool for the
specific time and space; highlighting how class relations are experienced,
legitimized, and perpetuated. The methodological approach used here was the
bibliographical research, also referring itself to the dialectical-literary materialistic
method, under the sieve of the Marxist thought and authors after Marx, however
companionable to this ideology. Eagleton (2011), Marx (2010), Engel (2015),
Konder (2016), among others, provided the basis for this work.
