RESUMO:

The present research aims to implement a teaching with characteristics which privilege orality in the English language classes taught for the integrated technical high school level in the IFRN/JC through the use of role-plays. To do so, after a historical account of the IFRN, we analyze its official documents governing the teaching of English as a foreign language, namely: the political-pedagogical project (2012); the proposal of work of the disciplines in the regular integrated high school courses and in the modality called EJA (2012); and the syllabuses of English disciplines I and II (2012). In the second part of this paper, we will deal briefly with the concept of communicative competence (HYMES, 1972; CAMPOS, 2018), from the teaching methods of foreign languages teaching up to the communicative method (LARSEN-FREEMAN, 2003; ALMEIDA FILHO, 2001); a model for the communicative classes to the public school (ALMEIDA FILHO, 2007) and the role-play technique (HAYCRAFT, 1986, LADOUSSE 1989, FERREIRA 2008, among others). The methodological procedures of our action research based on the theoretical precepts of Thiollent (1986) and the contextualization of our research site are presented later on. Finally, we discuss what the initial data collected through a diagnostic questionnaire pointed out: the students in the group researched are between 16 and 22 years old and they come from different regions near the city of João Câmara, where our research was done.
