RESUMO:

The status that Literature of French expression, in particular the Guyanese one, takes place in Brazilian context is almost non-existent. There is a shortage of academic papers, translations or even literary studies. Currently, the debate on colonialism and postcolonialism in the twentieth century brings to the light ideas from experts of several countries, such as, Homi Bhabha (1949), Edward Saïd (1978; 1995) and Gayatri Spyvak (1985).  Writers from Antilles, such as Frantz Fanon (1952) and Edouard Glissant (1981), have approached colonialism and postcolonialism, founding a basis and a theoretical practice for postmodern literary studies. According to Glissant (1981), a literary piece, in its large amount of application, can cover two functions. The first one is “taking into pieces gears of a given system”, to expose and to demystify hidden mechanisms. The second one complements the first gathering communities around their myths, beliefs, fantasies or ideology, highlighting their contributions. In this context, Christiane Taubira-Delannon wrote in 2002 her book entitled L’esclavage raconté à ma fille. Such study aims at verifying procedures used by the author in order to break with the process of representation for blacks as antiquated, uncivilized, slighter, hated and intolerable, which colonialist literature worked out for centuries, besides analysing the literary couter-discourse which allows deconstructing such images conveyed along history. Such critic thought can demystify that negative social representation in order to contribute to an individual and collective (re)valuation in the quotidian Guyanese. Therefore, the literary text would take part of an awarenees of subject place in its own history and in the (re)construction of its alterity in the mixed Guyanese society.
