Faced with the significant offer of technological and / or digital resources that promise to enhance academic skills, Spritz digital tool emerges as a resource for reading on digital screens with the promise of increasing reading speed without compromising textual comprehension. The present study investigates this promise, relating the role of working memory (system responsible for temporary storage and information processing) in reading comprehension within different frames of texts presentation - Spritz and digital - and in different languages - Portuguese (L1) and English (L2). Therefore, the impact that the Spritz digital tool is able to generate on text comprehension of individuals under bilingual education and that present different working memory capacities, as well as the perceptions of these subjects regarding the use of this tool are also points investigated. Twenty-six subjects integrated the sample of this exploratory and mixed methods study, being submitted to tests for working memory, L2 proficiency, previous knowledge in L1 and L2, and reading comprehension activities in L1 and L2. The results indicate correlations between working memory and reading in L1 when the previous knowledge variable was controlled; it was also found a significant difference between texts presentation modes (in L1 and L2) and measures of reading comprehension. In general, the present study contributes to the discussion about the applicability of technological and / or digital resources for reading in L1 and L2.
