RESUMO:

The present thesis intends to show that the last oeuvre Bouvard and Pécuchet (1881), of the French writer Gustave Flaubert (1821-1880), anticipated 20th century aesthetic processes, such as the (cubist) collage of (dadaist) negativity in literature in the 19th century . Published in 1881, the book disconcerted his contemporaries and was considered a "moral revenge" before the bourgeois society of the time. The author devoted himself to readings of several books, from subjects of diverse scientific areas, with the intention to create an "Encyclopedia of the human stupidity". For this, Flaubert detected incoherent theories and redirected to his novel, maintaining the authorship of the works he read, where the time, space and position of the author end up being confused, denouncing human stupidity in the face of the need to obtain knowledge. Thus the collage of ideas from other authors gives the narrative a fragmented aspect and negativity is constructed through the satire that Flaubert makes to scientific knowledge, which are invalidated in each chapter. The literary relation with the two aforementioned avant-garde aesthetics is justified in Campos' (1978) speech by saying that Flaubert already announced nineteenth-century modernist elements inBouvard and Pecuchet. Thus, we aim to address the aesthetic aspects of Gustave Flaubert's works, emphasized by Barthes (1974, 2004), such as the obsession for human foolishness, fascination with science and the cataloging of information in favor of his writing, with theoretical support in Dord-Crouslé (2000). We will also make a historical journey through the nineteenth century, through of literature and the plastic arts, culminating in the Flaubertian representation in future aesthetics, through the analysis of Bouvard and Pécuchet and the cubist and dadaist techniques.
