RESUMO:

Considering that the majority of students in the English classes of English as an Additional Language (EAL) at high school level use adjectives to report their feelings on writing in English, such as "uncomfortable" and "desperate", and because they cite music, games, apps, films and tv series -- all of which are in the realm of fanfiction -- as genres they have regular contact with in English, this dissertation aims to analize the effects of an intervention using Genre Pedagogy in EAL teaching/learning, in the context of groups of high school students at the  Federal Institution of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN) Campus in Macauthrough the introduction of fanfiction. Using this genre to develop written production, we establish the following as objectives: to verify lexical density pre and post intervention/ to evaluate the student's written production based on the rubric from the Reading to Learn, Learning to Write (2012) program; and to identify how students evaluate the use of fanfiction and their own writing after the intervention. The research is characterized as qualiquantitative, action research (TRIPP, 2005), using as a theoretical base the Theory of Genre and Register (MARTIN, ROSE, 2008; ROSE, 2012), which is in turn, based on the premisses of Systemic Functional Linguistics of Halliday (HALLIDAY, MATHIESSEN, 2014, EGGINS, 2004, HALLIDAY; HASAN, 1996). With this research we expect that our results will promote changes in the teaching practice of the teacher-researcher and contribute to the area of teaching/learning EAL, specifically with respect to written production.
