RESUMO:

The literary texts published in newspapers such as Ilhéus's Diário da Tarde, be it in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century, can be seen as a memory construct of a society and a region, since they help to form a new consumer public Of culture. These texts can also be considered sources of great importance in the interpretation of facts and aspects of these centuries, since these journals were more easily circulated in rich but peripheral cities and regions, such as Ilhéus, and could be purchased more easily because of a lower cost than the book, rare and much more expensive article than the newspaper. Thus, an important part of the history of the southern region of Bahia, especially the cocoa region, composed of Ilhéus and other cities in the south and extreme south of the state, can be seen, recounted and recalled through these texts published in the Diário founded on February 28, 1928 and ran for 70 years. In this research, composed by the survey of the literary texts of the years 1929, 1931, 1933 and 1935, we propose to discuss how these texts can be considered constructs of memory of this region and, to that end, we focus on the concepts of remembrance and forgetfulness, Memory and collective memory, discussed by authors such as Paul Ricoeur, Paolo Rossi, Janice Theodoro, Socorro de Fátima Pacífico Barbosa, Maurice Halbwachs, Myriam Sepulveda, Frances Yates, among others. Starting from such concepts we realize that the literary texts published in the Diário da Tarde can be seen as a collection, archive and place of memory. Since memory is life, it will always be carried by living groups and is in a permanent state of change, therefore it will always be open to the dialectic of remembrance and forgetfulness.
