RESUMO:

The brazilian Government has sought over time a more agile and efficient performance in the pursuit of results which meet satisfactorily the needs of society. In addition to the bases of new Public Management reform named in Brazil, also called the gerencialista reform, dated 1995, whose central focus is the reduction of bureaucracy and costs, and increased efficiency and results, the research discusses the emergence of governance in the Australian public sector, more heavily marked from the years 2000, adding to the Government's transparency practices area , social participation, commitment to accountability (accountability), risk management and implementation of public policies. Using as data collection instrument the semi-structured interview form to be held by the author with leaders of the institution, the research classified as exploratory, descriptive and qualitative, aims to review the management practices of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) are in accordance with the propositions of governance in the public sector.
