SUMMARY:

The aim of this study was to estimate the occurrence of falls in the elderly and their association with polypharmacy use. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. Eligible participants will be elderly people aged 60 or over, taking five or more medications, who have a National Health Card (CNS), and are registered at the Basic Health Units (UBS) of a city in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte. Elderly people unable to perform the mobility and balance tests will be excluded. Data will be collected using the Timed Up and Go Test (TUG), calf circumference, and the Falls Efficacy Scale, International Version in Brazilian Elderly (FES-I-BRASIL). The results will be presented in two articles: article one is a literature review and article two contains data from the selected elderly people.
