 The demographic transition observed worldwide is the result of the rapid and continuous aging process of populations, which began in developed countries and more recently expanded to so-called emerging countries. From this perspective, aging is a complex event that is socially and culturally constructed, which suffers from obstacles that prevent the elderly from fully participating in society, including ageism. This terminology is used to designate a social phenomenon that occurs in a multifaceted way, encompassing stereotypes, prejudices and discriminations related to age. Therefore, this study aims to map methods to combat ageism against elderly people, through a scoping review. The study will be developed based on the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology for scoping reviews, in which search strategies formulated using keywords and descriptors will be used in order to find relevant information in large databases, including LiLacs, PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, BdEnfe and Embase, as well as the use of gray literature. It should be noted that prior research was carried out using the descriptors “ageism” and “strategies” in the main databases, and no scoping or systematic review to map methods of combating ageism against elderly people was found. Thus, the research will be organized into the following stages: formulation of research questions, identification of relevant studies, selection of studies relevant to this research, data extraction and analysis and interpretation of results. As preliminary results of the study, based on the search strategies developed according to Population, Concept and Context, it is identified that a large part of the findings are present in the gray literature, while the results obtained in the databases vary in quantity, Furthermore, it should be noted that most of the terms used in the strategies are keywords to cover the search scope. It is noteworthy that methods to combat ageism, such as laws and policies, intergenerational contact, and education and re-education of individuals promote the mitigation and prevention of ageism.
