SUMMARY:

Mouth cancer is a public health issue in Brazil and around the world. In addition to presenting significant incidence and mortality rates, the costs of its treatments substantially burden the public health service. This research is an ecological time series study, with official mortality data obtained through the Mortality Information System. This system is included in the databases of the Brazilian Ministry of Health, available on the website of the SUS Information Technology Department (DATASUS). The study investigated the temporal trend in mortality from oral cancer in Brazil between the years 2000 and 2020. Population data come from censuses and year estimates, subdivided into the years 2001-2005, 2006-2010, 2011-2015, 2016-2020. Mortality rates were standardized by sex, color/race, education and analyzed by each municipality in Brazil. The rates were calculated based on the estimated population for the year equivalent to the midpoint of each period, using the base of 100 thousand inhabitants. For the aggregate calculation, as in the case of regions, for example, population-weighted averages were calculated. All data used in this work, information on population as well as information on mortality, result from open data, that is, in the public domain. The research is in the final phase, article production and dissertation writing.
