SUMMARY:

Introduction: Population aging has been growing significantly in the country with this there has been an increase in demand for Long Stay Institutions for the elderly (LSIEs), the aging process enhances the increased risk for the development of vulnerabilities such as the worsening of Noncommunicable Chronic Diseases (NCDs) that are common in people aged 60 and over. The Covid-19 pandemic was decreed by the World Health Organization on March 11, 2020. From the beginning, it was shown that people over 60 years of age are more vulnerable to the disease. Objective: To analyze health problems and the degree of social vulnerability in institutionalized elderly people. Methods: Two analyzes will be carried out: 1) Descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study, the research population consisted of 44 elderly residents of a Long Stay Institution for the Elderly (LSIEs) located in the municipality of Maranguape, Ceará. The variables analyzed were studied based on data collected from the mirror of the elderly person's health booklet (CSPI, using an electronic form ( Google Forms ) for data collection, collecting sociodemographic data, presence of NCDs, polypharmacy, anthropometric data and assessment of nutritional status; 2) Secondly, data will be collected and the variables evaluated: degree of social vulnerability through the IVS , anxiety assessment through the Back inventory and stress through the EEP. Results: From the first analysis, 59.1% (n=26) of the elderly were female and 61.3% (n=27) of the total had some type of disability, where 68.2% (n=30) of the elderly reported having four or more years of schooling, while 63.7% (n=28) did not use polypharmacy. From a nutritional perspective, 61.5% (n=16) of women had better results in the classification of adequate weight (≥ 22 and ≤ 27 kg/m²), while 33.3% (10) of men had adequate weight. The unintentional weight loss variable was more expressive in female elderly 19.2% (5) women showed greater signs of loss of muscle mass than men being 92.3% (24). Men and women have higher rates in: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) totaling 42.3% (11) and Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) 65.9% (29), although SAH is more present in women 65.4% (17 ) and DM is more present in males 28% (5), 70 .5% of the sample analyzed, had a history of chronic disease, with no association with their nutritional profile (p = 0.35). Final considerations: Institutionalized elderly people, are susceptible to chronic diseases, mostly SAH and DM , although they have an adequate nutritional status based on BMI, many elderly people are overweight, with a high percentage of fat and loss of muscle mass that may indicate the diagnosis of sarcopenia, still needing delve into other variables such as social vulnerability, anxiety and stress.
