SUMMARY:

Suicidal behavior is a serious public health problem in the world, it is multi-determined and involves social, biological, psychological, cultural, philosophical and ethical-political issues. In Brazil, men die more by suicide than women, however, women attempt suicide about three times more than men. In this gender paradox, there are notably complex issues that are still little explored in scientific studies, especially in relation to suicidal behavior in women. The conception of gender that guides this study goes beyond the concept of sex, and considers that the differences between people are produced by culture and by arrangements by which a society transforms biological sexuality into achievements of human life. Thus, the general objective of this study is to understand the experiences of women with ideation and attempted suicide from a gender perspective; and specific: a) knowing the singularities in the way of life of women who have the idea and/or attempted suicide; b) to analyze the therapeutic itineraries of women in search of care when in the course of ideation and/or suicide attempt; c) to analyze the multiprofessional care for women with ideation and/or suicide attempt in the Psychosocial Care Network; d) knowing the health management process in relation to suicidal behavior. This is a qualitative research with a hermeneutic and dialectic approach. Participating in this study: a) women with ideation and/or attempted suicide assisted in the health network of the city of Natal/RN; b) health professionals who work in the care of women with suicidal ideation and/or attempt and; c) health managers who work in the Psychosocial Care Network. Data collection follows an intramethod triangulation perspective and uses different techniques: a) semi-structured interview; b) documentary records and; c) field diary. The collected material will be organized with the aid of the N-Vivo® software and analyzed through the hermeneutics and dialectics proposed by Minayo. So far, with ongoing data collection, the main predictors of suicide in women have been identified: presence of violence (physical, psychological and sexual), breaking socio-affective bonds and presence of some mental disorder. In addition, the experiences of these women in health services and in the community in search of care emerge as important fronts of psychosocial support for overcoming suicidal behavior.
