SUMMARY:

Gender is one of the factors associated with Food Insecurity (FI), however, due to
way in which gender is classified in population surveys (male and female) does not
we have data on AI in gender minority groups such as the transgender population,
although trans people experience forms of stigma that are potential risk factors for
AI The research is divided into three phases: 1) theorization, in which we establish the nexus between
transgender experiences and the impact on dietary outcomes through a review
systematic; 2) cross-sectional pilot study, in which we estimated the frequency of AI in the community
Brazilian transgender and associated factors; and 3) a case-control study, not yet
developed, which will allow to verify the differences in the explanatory factors of AI between
transgender people and cisgender controls. We discovered that transgender experiences are
related to food and nutrition security, nutritional status, health care and
emic views on healthy eating, but there are still many research gaps. THE
estimated frequency of AI in the Brazilian trans population, in turn, is 69%, being
associated with income and employment, and aggravated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Now we wait
discover the prevalence of AI among transgender people in Natal-RN, and find out if there is
inequality in explanatory factors of AI between cisgender and transgender people.
