SUMMARY:

The Primary Health Care Expanded Support Center (NASF-AB) were created with the meaning of fortify, integrate and amplify the developed activities by the Family Health Strategy from the perspective of the theoretical-methodological framework of Matrix Support and a work process that goes against conventional models of care provision. In the last months, the Nasf-Ab has faced a series of setbacks and even a possible threat of extinction. That said, it is essential to know and analyze the work process developed and established by Nasf-ab in Natal-RN, the main activities performed, its contribution to the change in the health care model and whether it has been an effective and resolutive tool in the municipality, especially when it reveals a city with such pertinent problems of coverage and access to health services for SUS users. This research is a Case Study, with a qualitative delineation, carried out with the professionals who are part of Nasf-Ab in Natal-RN. The data collection took place through semi-structured interviews with professionals and empirical observation of the actions performed by the Center, along the construction of a field journal with the records of the moments. The data analysis was performed through Content Analysis, categorizing the data in the thematic analysis modality. A total of eleven professionals took part in this research, from different teams, who have been with Nasf since its implantation in 2011 and are permanent employees of the municipality, being two Physiotherapists, three P.E. Professionals, two Nutritionists, two Psychologists, and two Social Workers. From the Content Analysis, five thematic categories emerged: The Nasf work agent; Interpersonal relationships and their implications in the health practices; Obstacles to the incorporation of the Matrix Support; The scenario and working conditions and their implications for Nasf; Nasf's effectiveness, political context, and uncertain future.
