RESUMO:

Therapeutic Communities (TC) are presented as an alternative to the treatment of addiction to alcohol and other drugs. With the insertion of these institutions into the Psychosocial Care Network (RAPS) and their multiplication in various regions of the country, the State has been left with the role of accompanying this dizzying growth and, mainly, regulating and overseeing these services. Thus this study aims to analyze the organizational and health infrastructure and the process of regulation and supervision related to TC. This is a descriptive and exploratory research using a mixed method involving a quantitative and qualitative approach. The target audience were 6 TC and 11 Sanitary Surveillance (Visa) professionals from various regions of the state of Rio Grande do Norte (RN). For data analysis, the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used in the quantitative approach, whose description was based on absolute and percentage frequency and measurements of the distribution center. In the qualitative, the technique used for content analysis was the "evaluation analysis", which seeks to measure the attitudes printed in the interviewee's speech taking into account all the language used. The results show that most TCs are affiliated with religious groups, charge regular monthly fees to their residents, and find it difficult to meet the requirements of current health legislation. Visa services have weaknesses regarding the process of regulation and sanitary inspection of these institutions, which consequently corroborates the perceived distance between these bodies and the TC, weakening the construction of a continuous dialogue.
