RESUMO:

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most prevalent autoimmune disorder and is associated with the demyelination of neurons in the central nervous system (CNS) through the activation of the immune system. It has a negative impact on the activities of daily living and the quality of life of its patients, affecting their economic and social status. Studies using vitamin A supplementation have shown promise in improving the disease. Thus, this dissertation aims to provide the best available evidence on the clinical impact of vitamin A supplementation on health-related outcomes in patients with multiple sclerosis. We will use the collection format of articles for the production of two articles, the first one is a protocol article, used as a basis for the production of the second article, a systematic review with meta-analysis. PubMed, PubMed, Scopus, cinahl, scielo, web of science, cochrane library and science direct, will be conducted from randomized clinical trials published until May 2019 to assess the relationship of vitamin A supplementation and related outcomes to health in patients with MS. For the delineation of the systematic review, PRISMA will be used. To evaluate the quality of the evidence and the strength of the recommendation will be used the GRADE, and to evaluate the internal validity of the selected studies, the JADAD scale will be used. For the extraction of all the data found, a database will be created in the Microsoft Excel program. For the synthesis of the data will be used recommendations of the Cochrane Collaboration manual, and for the meta-analysis will be used standard statistical techniques and RevMan software.
