RESUMO:

Gingival recessions can cause cervical dentin hypersensitivity and have a negative effect on the oral health related quality of life and a strong social, psychological and emotional impacts on the daily life of each patient. Root coverage techniques by subepithelial connective tissue graft and collagen matrix being a great treatment options for gingival recessions. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of root coverage techniques by subepithelial connective tissue graft and collagen matrix in the groups of patients with Miller's class-I and II gingival recession with 6-month follow-up. METHODS: This randomized, double-blind, split-mouth, controlled clinical trial evaluated 27 subjects with bilateral Miller's class-I and II gingival recession treated with root coverage techniques by subepithelial connective tissue graft and collagen matrix. Data evaluation of hipersensibilty, aesthetics, patient satisfaction and quality of life was realized at post-operative at baseline, three months and six months after surgery. Data were analyzed statistically through the Friedman and Wilcoxon tests, with a significance level of 5%. RESULTS: Male patients (51.8%) were predominant, with mean age of 27 years old (22-53, ± 7.7). Statistical analysis showed that was statistical difference on postoperative pain after 08h, 24h, 07, 15 and 30 days (p<0,001) and when compared to each other, after 08h and 24h (p<0,001). There was statistical difference between hipersensibilty, aesthetic and patient satisfaction on baseline, 3 months ands 6 months (p<0,001). There was also success in the quality of life indexes for the three evaluated intervals (p<0.001), with the physical and psychological discomfort being the bests results. CONCLUSION: It was possible to realize that the root coverage surgeries have been beneficial in quality of life and in related impacts patients.
