RESUMO:

The month of June is the most expected period of the year for people living in the Brazilian northeast. The reason to explain all this euphoria is the result of the feasts of St. John, which in turn is considered the most important event of the year, even when compared to the Christmas cycle. Although many people who experience this type of festivity are not sure who Saint John is, many of the other phenomena that surround this event have symbologies that can reveal surprising meanings. Thus, this research sought to discuss some meanings of these symbols, investing in a corporeal experience using the method of Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology. To produce these meanings, a network of meanings was constructed through interviews, photos, videos, and the symbolic meanings attributed to these elements. Thus, in the first year, we invested in signifying the symbols present in the feast of St. John, celebrated in the city of Santa Cruz - PB, in 2016. In the following year, we have tried to experience other situations that would reveal others Symbols. This occasion gave us the chance to experience the dance that most symbolizes this type of party, the Junina gang. The corporal experience with the CIA Junina Luar gang revealed to us other symbolic and aesthetic meanings that are imbricated in this type of dance, thus idealizing the second moment of the study. Until then, we have noticed that some of the symbols of the feasts of St. John, which have been attributed here to meanings, have close relations with the existence of man, with the sacred and the profane, with life in the countryside and in the city, and with the body , Which will allow us to elaborate some discussions and contributions to the field of Physical Education.
