SUMMARY:

The Atlantic Rainforest stretches along the Brazilian coast from the state of Rio Grande do Norte to Rio Grande do Sul. It has a remarkable biodiversity, with an estimated 20,000 species of plants and 2,400 species of vertebrates. About a quarter of this diversity is made up of freshwater fish (~600 species), characterizing a high level of endemism. Within this diversity of species are the catfish of the Trichomycteridae family, which includes nine subfamilies, with Trichogeninae and Microcambevinae being endemic to the Atlantic Rainforest. Species of Microcambevinae are found in small and medium-sized coastal basins along the main hydrographic ecoregions of the Atlantic Rainforest in southeastern Brazil, with a diversity of 20 species distributed in two genera: Listrura de Pinna, 1988, with twelve species, and Microcambeva Costa & Bockmann, 1994, with eight. The taxonomy and systematics of this group have been developed in the last 20 years, with more than half of the species described, while the hypotheses of relationship have been proposed in the last five years. Records of these genera in different basins have, in most cases, resulted in the description of new species. These new records are important for filling in the gaps in the geographical distribution of the subfamily along the drainages of the Atlantic Forest. With comprehensive species coverage from ichthyological collections and new collections along the coastal basins, the main objectives of this thesis are: the description of two new species of Listrura, from the island of Santa Catarina in the state of Santa Catarina; the description of a new species of Microcambeva from Paranaguá Bay in the state of Paraná; and the redescription of M. ribeirae, covering its anatomical and morphological patterns. In addition, a biogeographical hypothesis was proposed for the Microcambevinae subfamily along the Atlantic Forest, using ancestral area reconstruction (BioGeoBEARS) and lineage diversification analyses (LTT, BAMM and GeoHISSE), to establish potential areas of origin for the subfamily, genera and species
