SUMMARY:

The second decade of the 2000s contains historical milestones responsible for profound transformations in the Brazilian labor market. The pandemic is the most recent global public health milestone, however, in the national context, we can observe the political-economic crisis in 2014 and the Labor Reform (RT) in 2017. Studying income according to minimum wage classes contributes to the understanding of social inequality as it analyzes, in addition to other variables, the income of families in different Brazilian regions and their socioeconomic contexts, which are so different from each other. The income of Brazilian families comes mainly from income from work, which represented more than 72% of total household income between 2012 and 2021. The intermittent employment contract modality proposed to make labor legislation more flexible and reduce costs on the part of the employer, however , there is no provision for a minimum number of hours to be worked. Therefore, there is no guarantee, at the end of the month worked, that the number of hours will be sufficient to reach the minimum wage. The worker must complete his social security payment if his salary is insufficient in relation to the initial social security ceiling (minimum wage). This study has the general objective of analyzing the spatial distribution of workers with a formal contract and individuals earning up to one minimum wage, in the 74 Brazilian Metropolitan Areas (RMB), in 2010 and 2022. And the specific objectives are: to investigate the presence of clusters of people without income (18+), people with income up to the minimum wage (18+), workers without and with a formal contract, according to sex and race/color; compare the spatial distribution of these target groups in 2010 and 2022; discuss the spatial distribution of these people in the context before and after the intermittent employment contract modality in Brazil. The time frame was delimited considering the census years 2010 and 2022, which covers the decade in which Brazilians were exposed to changes in the economic, political and public health scenario, at collective and individual levels. The geographical area chosen was the RMB due to its role as the “most active areas” of human life in society, holding the greatest potential for ecological and economic changes. Considering that the changes resulting from intermittent work in Brazil will be analyzed in the medium and long term, geographical areas with greater demographic density were chosen. As for the database, RAIS or New CAGED were not used due to their use by other works and due to changes in these bases from 2020 onwards. However, if the microdata from the 2022 Census are unavailable until the defense of the thesis, Continuous PNAD will be used, associated with spatial data. This work contributes to the topic by analyzing data from a geospatial perspective with Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (AEDE).
