SUMMARY:

In recent decades, the issue of disability has started to be debated more frequently internationally. This fact occurred when the disabled began to take a stand and seek their rights. Despite advances in international and national policies trying to include the disabled in society, they are often prevented from realizing a fundamental right, which is to study, due to some limitation or obstacle encountered. Studies on the spatial mobility of these people are very scarce, for this reason, the migratory behavior and pendular mobility of this portion of the population in Brazil are not known. Studies that relate migration and disability are more focused on the labor market theme, on the other hand, there are few studies that relate migration, disability and commuting from an educational point of view. In this sense, this research aims to focus on the spatial mobility of these people for educational purposes. The main objective of this study is to analyze the factors that influence the spatial mobility of students with special needs in the Northeast region. As specific objectives, we propose to trace the sociodemographic profile of students with disabilities, to verify the migration and pendulum mobility behavior of these people, to investigate whether the type of disability associated with the distance between the place of residence and study would be a factor that would inhibit migration and commuting, as well as checking whether the school infrastructure, the training of the teaching staff, the availability of ESA, school transport and meals are characterized as factors of attraction for people with disabilities. This research is characterized as exploratory and adopts a qualitative-quantitative approach, having a bibliographic and descriptive-interpretative character. Regarding the methodological bias, we used the School Census (2013 to 2017) as a data source, since, from this source, we identified the sociodemographic profile of people with disabilities, the architectural characteristics of schools and the training of teachers. The combination of student, teacher and school data allowed the analysis of the spatial mobility, migration and pendular mobility of elementary and high school students who performed any of these mobilities in the Northeast region. The analyzes are expected to highlight that both migration and commuting occur in the direction of large urban centers, and that the school's infrastructure and teaching staff are attractive factors.
