RESUMO:

In recent years, suicide rates have been rising worldwide. Deaths from this cause are linked not only to individual factors, but also to biological, social, cultural and environmental factors. The literature points to divergent associations on the relationship between income inequality and suicide rates. Although most deaths from this cause occur in low- and middle-income countries, few studies have explored this relationship in countries with these characteristics. In view of the above, this dissertation project has as general objective to perform a descriptive spatial analysis of age-standardized suicide rates and their relation to the Gini index in the Brazilian microregions in 2010. The data used will come from the Demographic Census 2010 ( IBGE) and the Mortality Information System (SIM) for the same year. The central hypothesis of this work is that, since Brazil is a country with continental dimensions, with different social, cultural and economic contexts, it is possible that the relationship between suicide rates and income inequality presents a differentiated behavior among the microregions, due to economic and sociodemographic disparities between these geographical units. In order to reach the proposed objective, spatial autocorrelation analyzes will be performed to verify the existence of spatial dependence in relation to the considered dimensions. The global index of Moran (IM) will be verified if there is positive or negative spatial dependence of suicide rates among the Brazilian microregions, while the local index (LISA) will univariate verify the existence of clusters of suicide rates among the microregions analyzed. Secondly, the bivariate local index (LISA) will be used to analyze the existence of spatial dependence between suicide rates and the Gini index, as well as between the selected sociodemographic dimensions (which also affect the occurrence of suicides ). This project also presents the next steps for the execution of the dissertation, such as structure of theoretical chapters, treatment of data and applications of methods, analysis of results and conclusions.
