SUMMARY:

My main objective with this work is to investigate the memory space (Nora, 1993) formed by the historiography concerning the Vocational High Schools of São Paulo, an innovative teaching experience that existed in the state between 1962 and 1969. This experience suffered an abrupt interruption by agents of the Military State (Germano, 2011) between 1969 and 1971, resulting in what I hope to demonstrate as a historical trauma (Rüsen, 2001; LaCapra, 2001; Roth, 2012; Lima, 2016). To accomplish this task, I will work with primary sources regarding the experience of Vocational High Schools from the Documentation and Scientific Information Center (CEDIC) of the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP), as well as with newspaper articles from the National Archives website. Additionally, I will utilize historiography itself, which will serve both as a source and as material from which I will extract other relevant documentation for the completion of this research (Chiozzini, 2003; 2010; Mascellani, 2010; Neves, 2010; Tamberlini, 1998). Through the application of the historical method (Rüsen, 2015), I intend to demonstrate that the interruption of the Vocational Schools' experience, due to the violence with which it was carried out, imposed a historical trauma on the memory space perceptible in historiography itself, reflecting the memory desires of the agents of the Military State in their interpretation of this experience. Therefore, I conclude that the Vocational Schools not only suffered from state violence in the past but that the memory of them continues to suffer, in the present, from the consequences of the lack of confrontation with Brazil's dictatorial past. It is concerning to observe that historiography itself, instead of being critical of the memory established by the military, tends to repeat it uncritically.
