The current History course at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) wasfounded in 1956, until then the Instituto Histórico Geográfico do Rio Grande do Norte(IHGRN) was the main historical research institution in Rio Grande do Norte. Most of theprofessors who initially structured the course were members of the Institute. The generalobjective of the dissertation is to analyze how the sociability network of the intellectuals whocomposed the IHGRN and the UFRN simultaneously contributed to the construction of theinstitutional space of the UFRN History course, in Natal, from 1956 to 1987. For this, Iinvestigate the history of the UFRN History course, its foundation and curricular structure; Ianalyze the performance of intellectual professors in the institutional space of the IHGRNthrough their writings in the Revista do IHGRN; and I discuss the production and teaching ofthese subjects in the academic space, seeking to understand approximations and distanceswith what they propose in their work at the IHGRN. I use as sources the minutes of facultymeetings, discipline programs, articles published in the Revista do IHGRN, articles publishedin the Revista História – UFRN, works archived in the collection of the DocumentationDivision of the Department of History at UFRN, and the interviews given by the availableprofessors. on the DVD 50 years of History and in the collection of the Laboratório deHistória Oral at UFRN (LABHO). I work with a critical qualitative analysis of the sources,and with the methodology of Oral History. Considering that the History course at UFRNforms a large part of historian professors in Rio Grande do Norte, it is possible to affirm thatinvestigating how the trainers built the training space and their methodological andhistoriographical options when teaching and researching helps in understanding aspects ofHistory teaching and History research carried out in the state.
