SUMMARY:

This  dissertation  aims  to  approach  the  historiographical  production  of  Rodrigo  Octávio Langaard Menezes (1866-1944), understanding his privileged position around the moment of transition  from  the  Monarchic  Regime  to  the  Republic  and  his  participation  in  the  spatial construction of the contours of the nation in a Pan-European region. -American, which gained increasing proportions along its intellectual journey. Subsidiarity, we seek here to point out the dynamics of the discipline of History and its use in sustaining the republican project in the midst of a context of disputes and uncertainties at the beginning of the 20th century.
