SUMMARY:

Nakht, a scribe and astronomer of the god Amon, had his tomb built on a hill, now called Sheik elQurna, in the city of Thebes, current Luxor, between 1401 and 1350 BCE, which makes it belong to the New Kingdom (c. 1550-1070 BCE), specifically the Eighteenth Dynasty (c. 1550-1307 BCE), between the reigns of Thutmose IV and Amenhotep III. Our intention in this dissertation is to analyze the tomb of Nakht (TT 52), understanding the funerary discourse produced by the Theban elite in the Eighteenth Dynasty, as well as the historical period to which he lived. Therefore, this work is divided into four parts, each seeking to interpret this funerary space from makros to mikros: build the Theban Landscape of the Eighteenth Dynasty, in which the tomb will be analyzed together with others of the same type and temporality; inspect the structure of the tomb and the objects found, explaining the rituals performed inside; insert the images in a spatial context and analyze them; and finally comprehend the texts together with the images. To this proposition, we will use theories of Egyptology itself in addition with Archaeology and Anthropology (disciplines that relate to History), such as Colin Renfrew's Cognitive Archaeology and Amos Rapoport's Built Environment, assisted by Lambros Malafouris’ Material Engagement Theory, and Valérie Angenot's methodological proposal for image and text analysis, thus proposing a System of Ritualistic Activities for Nakht's tomb (TT 52).
