SUMMARY:

The general objective of this research is to expose the processes of historical and social construction of indigenous intellectuals in different contexts in Latin America / Abya Yala, in the period from 1970 to 2018. The time frame exposes three important moments for understanding this analysis: the increased interest of indigenous people in higher education; the emergence of indigenous intellectuals and the prominence and performance of these intellectuals in different spaces as representatives of their peoples. The works of two contemporary indigenous authors are used here as main sources and have been studied in more depth: “Half face, half mask” by Eliane Potiguara and “Recado confidencial a los chilenos” by author Elicura Chihuailaf. These two authors have a central space within the research, as it is from their works that we will approach the views and perspectives of the indigenous people more deeply, since they in their positions - as indigenous intellectuals - assume a militant posture and are seen as representatives of their peoples, in their localities. The authors use poetic space as a place for the manifestation of their identities, ancestry and history. The result of this discussion will be a mapping that encompasses the main theoretical discussions about indigenous intellectuals, exposing, among other issues, the way in which indigenous intellectuals are constituted in different contexts, and the relationships of these thinkers with the urban space, academic space and poetic space. Understanding, in this way, the construction processes of these intellectuals and how indigenous intellectuals are articulated and constitute in different contexts of Latin America / Abya Yala in spaces still marked by coloniality.
