SUMMARY:

The objective of this work is to approach the research that we developed about the life and work of the poetess Auta de Souza (1876-1901), one of the most known and acclaimed names in the literature of the state of Rio Grande do Norte and one of the great names of Brazilian poetry. More precisely, our aim throughout this text is to develop a study on the poetics of space built in the Auta de Souza’s poetry, taking as our initial landmark the year 1893 - the year in which Auta de Souza started her poetic production, according with her manuscript entitled Dhálias - and as our final landmark the year 1901, the year of the Auta de Souza's death. In the first chapter, we approach the construction of an intimate space in the Auta de Souza’s poetry, seeking to analyze the writing of herself carried out by the poetess in her verses. In the second chapter, we tried to discuss what we characterize as a pilgrimage space experienced by the poetess in her many wanderings in search of a better health condition, as well as the way in which these spaces and the situations seen and lived in them were narrated in her poetry. Finally, in our third chapter, we seek to address the symbolic and mystical aspects present Auta de Souza’s poetry and the way in which these aspects are narrated in order to build a connection between her poetry and a space beyond life through his Horto. In this way, we focus on Autean poetry in order to study the images constructed about these intimate - interior or existential - and pilgrimage - exterior or geometric - spaces, as well the connections between these spaces in the construction of a spatiality that transcends death, providing a poetic and Catholic legacy from Auta de Souza to herself.
