RESUMO:

This dissertation proposes to analyse how the comic book stories produced by “Editora Brasil América (EBAL)” were articulated with the process of national identity formation promoted by the State in the period of 1950 to 1964. After that, we will analyse one of these Works, “A Independência do Brasil em Quadrinhos”, published in 1970 by EBAL, aiming to point the continuity and the use of this articulation to the legitimation of the political regime instated after the 1964 Coup. Among the used tools to strengthen the national identity speeches, the comics began to occupy a prominent place due to the comic book’s popularity and, the fact of an entire comic gender was developed in order to help history teaching. “A Independência do Brasil em Quadrinhos” is strategic for this comprehension because was published exactly in the sixtieth hundredth anniversary of the Independence of Brazil, abdicating themes and an ideary which allows us to verify and comment the ideology of an authoritarian regime.
