PÁGINAS: 83
GRANDE ÁREA: Ciências Humanas
ÁREA: História
RESUMO:

The periods when Egypt was dominated known as Ptolemaic (300 BC -30 BC) and Roman brought several changes in that society and consequently in that culture. The city of Alexandria, political center for the Ptolemaic rulers and the capital of the province during Roman Period was located in the Delta, the region that most concentrated and spread the Greek, Macedonian and Roman population within Egypt territory. Despite this supremacy of the foreign element in political administration, as well as the appreciation of Greek identity, many elements of Egyptian culture remained and perpetuated during both Macedonian and Roman domination. Religious aspects are the most remarkable, especially regarding to funeral beliefs. This research seeks to investigate the cultural interactions that take place in the funerary space, presenting as object of study a tomb located in the archaeological site of Kom el-Shoqafa, located in Alexandria, whose construction dates between the centuries I and II AD.   Our idea of funerary space consists in a space which is architectural and material but also symbolic, having a mythical and sacred character. By analyzing the space and the iconography of this tomb, we support the idea that egyptian, greek and roman cultures got integrated in a process we call entanglement, a concept formulated by the archaeologist Phillip Stockhammer (2012). The text presented for this qualification process consists in the chapter 3 and 4 of our research. The third chapter brings a discussion on theory and method about images, art and iconography. The fourth chapter consists in the analysis of our documental corpus, which is composed by photographies and archaeological drawings of the main tomb of Kom el-Shoqafa.
