SUMMARY:

Fernando de Noronha is a unique tourist destination with expressive scenic beauty of the natural landscape, rich biodiversity, tourist attractions and infrastructure that attract various types of visitors. Different motivations and factors lead people to visit the destination, economic, psychological, geographic and social aspects make up the choice criteria for tourists who want to visit Fernando de Noronha. As it is an archipelago far from the Brazilian coast and belongs to an environmental protection area, local government authorities restrict the entry of non-residents and limit the movement of people. This particularity allows controlling several aspects that affect the destination's tourist demand. The study aims to analyze the main economic and non-economic factors that influence demand in Fernando de Noronha, based on understanding the determining elements that explain tourist behavior, under specific conditions in choosing the destination. Demand modeling seeks to quantify the intensity of causal relationships between factors that directly or indirectly interfere with tourist flow, whose information is important to promote government and business planning actions. The econometric model applied will be Sargan's (1964) General-to-Specific Multiple Linear Regression, with a dependent variable on the total number of tourists in Fernando de Noronha and independent variables: proxy income (destination GDP), proxy price (IPCA inflation index), environmental preservation rate, number of foreign tourists, numbers of national tourists, non-economic variables, status, cognitive image, and quality of tourist services. Secondary data on economic variables will be extracted from the database made available by the destination managers. Primary data on non-economic variables will be collected through in-person questionnaires, with closed questions and a metric scale based on Likert with 5 points. The sample will be non-probabilistic for cross-sectional convenience. Data will be collected in Fernando de Noronha between March and May 2024, processed using Excel and analyzed using the Statistical Package For Social Science (SPSS 23.0) software.
