BIG AREA: Ciências Sociais Aplicadas
AREA: Turismo
SUMMARY:

The tourism field, in a general sense, is associated with the experience and quality of services, encompassing various attributes for consumer satisfaction. In this study, the focus lies on the health tourism sector, precisely the derivative of wellness tourism. Recent research has been directed towards wellness tourism, encompassing quality, satisfaction, and user experience (He et al., 2021, 2022; Medai et al., 2022; Sangpikul, 2022; Wei & Kim, 2022). The main aim of the study is to centrally analyze the factors that contribute to perceived quality among consumers in wellness tourism, examining how they influence overall service satisfaction and customer loyalty. For methodological purposes, the research will adopt both qualitative and quantitative approaches, intentional and non-probabilistic. The thesis will be composed of three phases. The first phase covers thematic ruptures, construction of the study object, and research design. The second phase involves observation, data collection, and analysis, while the third is dedicated to interpretation and presentation of results. Three preliminary studies were carried out in the first phase: 1) systematic review of studies on wellness tourism in the Web of Science (WOS) from 1987 to 2022, totaling a sample of 248 valid articles, analyzing variables such as objectives, keywords, dimensions of wellness, typology of tourism, authors, and countries; 2) data mining through the analysis of consumer comments from 14 SPAs in Rio Grande do Norte (RN) using User-Generated Content (UGC); and 3) evaluation of perceived quality management models to underpin the research design. For preliminary analyses in Phase 1, resources from programs like Endnote, Iramuteq (version 0.7 alpha), and VOSviewer were employed. Phase 2 of the research, focused on data collection, will be carried out using a quantitative approach, through the application of questionnaires to wellness consumers who have had some experience in the last 12 months. Quantitative data will be collected via Google Forms and entered into a spreadsheet using Microsoft Office Excel. Subsequently, this data will be imported into the Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) statistical program, aiming to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of the collected information. The studies from Phase 1 will be updated, adding greater robustness to the data. The main expectation is that the study will contribute to the advancement of research in the wellness tourism segment in Brazil, as well as obtaining data that assist managers, researchers, and academics in terms of best management practices for this sector. This includes understanding the motivations, expectations, and experiences acquired by consumers in this area.
