SUMMARY:

This work presents the theoretical conceptions of the thesis project “Tourism and Socio-environmental Conflicts in Protected Areas: Context, Challenges and Possibilities of Mediation in the Cabo Orange National Park - AP”. With an expressive theme in the current national situation, the problem consists of analyzing the challenges and possibilities of applying the Institute of Mediation in the resolution of conflicts as an effective means, enabling the development of tourist activities in protected areas, identifying the capacity and/or inability of the tourism management to improve the quality of life of host populations and boost the economy of local communities. The methodology will be of a descriptive nature with a qualitative approach and will be based on the Action research. The locus of this research will be the Conservation Units, with the focus of analysis on the Cabo Orange National Park in the State of Amapá, where a proposal for conflict mediation will be carried out. Bibliographical research will be carried out using as sources: theses, dissertations, articles, as well as documents, reports and processes of the Ministry of Tourism, ICMBio, Ibama, Federal Court of Auditors, Courts of Justice and Public Prosecutions. Individual, qualitative, semi-structured exploratory interviews will be conducted with tourism managers from federal, state and municipal agencies in the state of Amapá, in addition to representatives of traditional communities. As a result, it is expected: to verify and evaluate the challenges for the application of consensual methods of conflict resolution, in the development of tourist activity in protected areas; Identify how tourism practices have been developed in the Cabo Orange-PNCO National Park and its role in intensifying or minimizing socio-environmental conflicts in the region. In addition to analyzing the governance conditions of Conservation Units in the state of Amapá and generating action proposals aimed at minimizing the main existing conflicts. We hypothesize that the application of the Institute of Mediation in the resolution of socio-environmental conflicts in protected areas can be an effective way, enabling the sustainable development of the tourist activity, helping in the conservation of the environment and in the management of tourism in improving the quality of life of the people. recipient populations and boost the economy of traditional communities.
