SUMMARY:

The technological advances that we have experienced in recent decades have been changing several behavioural aspects of our life in society. As technology has been transforming our coexistence, we have witnessed how it has also been 'restructuring' the operational and strategic management of tourism. In recent decades, all aspects of tourism and hospitality organizations have been radically reshaped through the adoption and implementation of information technologies. This adoption of new technologies and adaptations that companies have been undertaking, changing their processes and modifying their practices, is what the literature has called Digital Transformation. In this sense, several academic researchers and private entities have sought to develop research and models from which it is possible to identify the stage of development and adoption of technological tools and instruments in business processes, in order to measure at what level of digital transformation the organization is finds, helping to understand, with clarity, its challenges, perspectives and opportunities and started to call these research of digital maturity models. And, although there are several research initiatives on the digital maturity of companies in different economic sectors, there are no academic models that specifically address this reality in tourism, taking into account its peculiarities and specificities. From these perspectives, the present study integrates, as a theoretical framework, concepts arising from the ideas of Maturity Theory, Digital Transformation and Smart Tourism. Thus, it aims to propose a Digital Maturity Measurement Model for Tourism Businesses, with its dimensions and classification levels, suitable for tourism; and that will be validated from its application with the accommodations. Therefore, exploratory-descriptive research will be developed; adopting the mixed method – qualitative and quantitative – in its elaboration, analyses and results. Analysing existing maturity models in other areas to propose a model suited to the specificities of tourism. Using, as research instruments, the focus group, the pilot test and the final data collection with companies in the accommodation sector, for evaluation and validation of the proposed model. Finally, the design and validation of a digital maturity measurement model for tourism businesses is expected.
