SUMMARY:

Knowledge and understanding of perceptions in relation to the environment and the disposal of waste, mainly of pharmaceutical origin, is fundamental in guiding educational practices and in the proper handling of medicines. The objective of this research was to evaluate the perception of university students about the ecotoxicological risk associated with the indiscriminate use and disposal of the drugs diclofenac and ibuprofen in water bodies. For this, a questionnaire was applied to students in the areas of environmental knowledge, health sciences and politics, with questions related to the social context, health profile and perception of risk for both ecosystems and human health. The interpretation and analysis were performed with the help of statistical tools: frequency analysis and Spearman correlation tests of non-parametric variables. Among the most significant results are negative attitudes such as self-medication that affects easy access to medicines and their difficult control, and the perception of risk of ibuprofen and diclofenac reflected in the connotation of "High ecotoxicological risk", for the health of aquatic ecosystems and human health. It was determined that the perception of ecotoxicological risk depends on the context in which the students are inserted; although it does not depend directly on their current academic training. It was evidenced the little knowledge that students have about the problems related to the inappropriate disposal of medicines in water bodies and it was possible to conclude that the lack of orientation and organization on the subject in all the institutions involved generates a brake on the development of the mentioned areas, if to this is added the little applicability of public policies and the low control of medicines that is taking place in Colombia.
