RESUMO:

With the advent of modernity, from the perspective of creating an environment for its existence, man acted on nature, transforming it and subjecting it to its interests and needs. Historically, this human action began to trigger several processes of environmental degradation, which, in the last resort, intensified and became problematic to the point where they established the contemporary environmental crisis. There are many efforts to understand the environmental crisis, with a view to broadening the debate on sustainability and, consequently, making environmental problems mitigated. Thus, the present work aims to provide reflective subsidies for the understanding of the environmental crisis as an ethical problem and theoretical subsidies for the repair of this problem under the light of responsibility ethics, which can be an ethical model for a society with more sustainable behaviors . For this, the modern conception of nature is problematic as symptomatic of the degradation of the environment, and it is demonstrated how the processes of degradation triggered and the institutionalization of environmental problems and risks trigger the instauration of the environmental crisis, revealing it as an ethical problem which needs repair. Then, in response to such a need, the ethics of responsibility of Hans Jonas will be presented as a proposal to repair the social injunction in order to achieve minimum consensuses of human action and more sustainable social behaviors. This work is of paramount importance as it broadens the understanding of sustainability beyond the economic, social and ecological dimensions, and brings the ethical dimension to the heart of the environmental debate.
