RESUMO:

An alternative means to minimize the environmental damage caused by the use of fossil fuels is the substitution for the use of biofuels. Caused by the use of fossil fuels is the substitution for the use of biofuels. Safflower is an alternative for the production of biodiesel, especially in regions such as the northeastern semi-arid region. However, for the cultivation, one of the practices carried out by the farmers is the fertilization which if performed in the wrong way can cause numerous environmental problems. Organic fertilization is now gaining momentum, as well as promoting fertilization brings several other benefits to the soil. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of nitrogen fertilization on the yield, production and physiological characteristics of the safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) and to evaluate the perception of technical students in agriculture about the use of chemical fertilizers in the semi-arid region. The experimental culture is being carried out on the IFRN campus in the municipality of Apodi-RN and is divided into subunits with four treatments and three replicates. The treatments consist of standard fertilization for the species; addition of fertilizer; addition of 100 kg/ ha of organic nitrogen fertilizer and addition of 200 kg/ ha of organic nitrogen fertilizer. Thus, physiological analyzes during the development of the plants will be made, optical microscopic analysis to verify the internal morphology of the plants and biomass and seed productivity. In addition, a questionnaire was applied to know the student’s perception of the technical course in Agricultural of the IFRN-Apodi campus about the use of fertilizers in the semi-arid. Through questionnaires, it was possible to evaluate that the students recognize the importance of using fertilizers, even though they believe that organic fertilizers are the best to use in the field, even though they show little information on the subject. The present work hopes to contribute with the knowledge of safflower cultivation in the northeastern semi-arid conditions.
