Observation of the development of landscapes in time is an important prerequisite for understanding the processes that are taking place and for the prognosis of future trends. In this sense, it is necessary to monitor the landscape of dry environments so that it is possible to provide landscape trend information. The objective of this research was to evaluate the variability of rainfall and land use implications for the municipality of Ipanguaçu / RN, in a geosystemic approach, making use of probabilistic statistics and geoprocessing techniques. To analyze the seasonality, spatialization and variability of precipitation, we used the Probability Distribution Function as a model for inference from a sample collected. We used the Normalized Vegetation Difference Index (NDVI) to show seasonal and interannual changes in vegetation development and activity and related to land use maps. NDVI is an indicator sensitive to the amount and condition of green vegetation and ranges from 0 to 1. The Land Use map was elaborated through classification not supervised by the Iso Cluster method which is a self organized classifier. After that, we assign percentages per class to detect patterns of change in the landscape. The results showed the probability of precipitation with moderate intensity (23.24%) and strong intensity (24.26%) had close results, evidencing that in Ipanguaçu there is a considerable probability of having a rainy season with intensity varying from moderate to year. The vegetation has lost its vigor and is rare in the study period, these are the effects of drought. It is noticed that the more dense and humid area gave place to the sparse vegetation. Rapid intervention by the municipality is required for the implementation of public policies for decision-making and mitigation measures that can minimize the impacts of drought.
